The Water Quality Problem

Studies over the years of the lake water quality have documented the increasing problems that stem from ubanization and inadequately managed population growth in the watershed. The most recent warning signs are:

bullet Since 1990 algae blooms in fall and winter have been a common occurrence in Pine Lake.
bullet In February 1995, King County issued a toxic algae bloom warning. People and pets were to avoid contact with algae in the water.
bullet In the summer of 1998 Pine Lake was closed to swimming for several weeks due to contamination.

These are clear warning signals of declining water quality; water that is desperately needed by people, wildlife, and salmon. The very quality of life in our region, and the values of our homes, is at risk.
